Don Johnson Big Band

The Don Johnson Big Band came to the attention of the whole nation already with their debut album Support de Microphones. The flower-covered release became one of our country’s best-selling self-published albums and such an important entity that Svart Records printed a celebratory vinyl of it 20 years after its release. The compilation’s albums have since been awarded three Emma statues, number one on the Finnish album chart, and the gold and platinum limits have been broken several times.

The material of the band, called the world’s smallest big band, surprises time and time again with its unpredictability. DJBB’s distinctive sound carries wide-ranging influences from different genres, from rap through pop to funk and from rock through more electronic music to jazz. The band always gathers again in the studio to create their skins with the help of visiting artists. The mood is far from calcified sitting still, let alone a frowning attitude.

Having fun can be seen naturally at gigs, through which the band has grown not only as a tough live band, but also a loyal following. Over the years, the Don Johnson Big Band has performed in international waters all the way to Asia. They are also known for the annual tradition of Christmas concerts that has continued almost throughout the 2000s, which have been seen especially at Helsinki’s Tavastia club.
